How FretWijzer works

Spot the roots
The orange notes are the roots. Use them as anchors: that's where your runs start and end.

Switch the view
Toggle between the full scale (7 notes) and the pentatonic (5 notes) to see what's left.
Try A minor
The A minor pentatonic (A C D E G) is the go-to starter scale for rock and blues. Put it on the fretboard, find the orange A around fret 5 on the low E string and play the notes up and down.

Frequently asked questions
What is a root note?+
The root is the note a key is named after and that sounds like 'home'. In A minor that is the A. Melodies and solos often end on the root.
What do the colours on the fretboard mean?+
Orange notes are the roots. The light notes are the other notes of the chosen scale or pentatonic. Notes without a marker are not part of the key.
What is the difference between a scale and the pentatonic?+
A major or minor scale has seven notes. The pentatonic scale uses five of them and leaves out the two notes that clash most easily. That makes the pentatonic easier to solo with.
