Start with the guitar and its strings
Sit comfortably with the guitar resting on your leg and relax your shoulders. From thickest to thinnest, the strings are E, A, D, G, B, E. Tune before playing so you can hear whether a note sounds right.
Learn one thing at a time
Pluck an open string, then try a note at the first and third frets. Next, play Em with two fingers on the second fret of the A and D strings. Strum slowly and listen for clear strings. Add Am once Em feels familiar.
Keep practice manageable
A short, regular session is more useful than a rare marathon. Change slowly between Em and Am without squeezing too hard. Our beginner course offers a lesson sequence; its first lesson is free, while later lessons require access after the trial.
