Lesson 3: Even more colour: seventh chords
A7, D7 and E7 give your playing tension — the blues recipe.
What does that 7 do?
The 7 in A7, D7 and E7 stands for the dominant seventh chord: an extra note that makes the chord sound "tense". It sounds as if it wants to move on to the next chord.
Handy detail: the 7 versions look a lot like the plain versions. Often you only need to move one finger.
