What happens in a first lesson?
A teacher can help the child hold the guitar, name the strings and try a few notes or a simple rhythm. Ask if a loan instrument is available so you needn't buy a guitar before a trial lesson.
What should parents look for?
Check that the guitar fits and the teacher speaks in a way your child understands. Ask for one small task to try at home. A trial lesson is more useful than an age recommendation alone.
Does my child need to read music?
No. Listening, singing and plucking a string can come first; notation can follow later.
